How to Start With Welding

General Welding Tips

Welding is a dangerous craft and should only be done by trained and certified professionals. This job involves using high-amounts of electricity, as well as intense heat that is enough to melt steel. However, this does not mean that you cannot do it, especially if it is just simple welding work such as tack welding two surfaces together or working with small pieces of metal. As long as you protect yourself, and of course, get yourself acquainted with the welding machine, you can probably do it yourself. Here are some general welding tips that you can use:

Safety Equipment and Tips

Safety first! Before you start your first welding project, it is important that you make sure that you are protected, as well as your property. Make sure to do the general welding task only in areas that have proper ventilation because you might suffocate if you inhale too much harmful gas that the welding torch usually disperses. Also, make sure that your eyes are protected by a high-quality welding mask, and your hand is also protected by cow leather gloves. Your feet, legs, and body should be protected by leather-based equipment as well. Also, the area that you are going to weld in should be properly lighted and all flammable objects should be protected when you start welding.

Operating the Welding Machine

Each welding machine is different depending on the manufacturer. There are analog machines where you manually set the amperage and the voltage settings, and there are those that are digital where you can see the amperage and voltage levels clearly. Also, there are modern welding machines that will allow you to use different welding methods. Also, take note that you will also use different cutting tools such as angle grinders and metal cutters.
